UN moves aid warehouses in Ukraine underground after 10 strikes
The UN said Russian strikes hit 10 of its warehouses in Ukraine this year, destroying millions of dollars in supplies, and is considering moving the warehouses underground. At the same time, Ukraine and Russia exchanged new strikes on energy facilities, industry and fuel infrastructure. In Kyiv, Russian drones killed two people, and Ukrainian strikes halted three of Russia's six largest diesel refineries.

What happened
UN Humanitarian Coordinator Matthias Schmale said Russian strikes hit 10 UN warehouses in Ukraine this year, destroying millions of dollars in supplies. In response, the UN is considering moving aid warehouses underground, delaying aid procurement and investing in armored vehicles and drone detection equipment.
Russian drones attacked two gas stations in Kyiv on Friday, killing two people and injuring six. The strikes were carried out ten minutes apart in the Obolonskyi and Dniprovskyi districts; on Thursday Russia also struck the capital's gas stations.
Russian attacks killed at least seven people, including four in Mykolaiv and three in Sumy. Russia's Defense Ministry also reported strikes on the Zaporizhstal steel plant, the Interpipe Steel complex and two cargo ships in the port of Chornomorsk.
Why it matters
The UN is delaying aid procurement amid rising civilian casualties. Russian diesel exports in June fell below 1 million tons, compared with about 2.5 million tons a year earlier, and US diesel prices exceeded $6 per gallon for the first time last week.
Who's affected
Directly affected were UN and WHO humanitarian operations, as well as residents of Kyiv, where two people were killed. Three of Russia's six largest diesel refineries have been halted or have limited operations, affecting fuel production.
