Kazakhstan establishes uranium site registry amid resource management overhaul

Kazakhstan will establish a registry of strategic uranium sites starting April 2026. The registry will include details such as site names and geographic coordinates. This move comes as the country enhances its resource management framework.
Registry Details
The registry will list strategic uranium sites, including uranium and rare-earth deposits. Each entry will specify the site's name, region, and geographic coordinates. If a site spans multiple regions, the registry will note the location of the central deposit. The competent authority in mineral resource management will maintain the registry based on data from the state mineral fund's unified cadastre.
Update Procedures
Changes to the state mineral fund's cadastre that require registry updates must be communicated within five working days. The authorized body for mineral study will provide updated information to the competent authority. Annually, by December 1, the competent authority will request data to verify the registry's accuracy. The registry will be updated in coordination with the authorized body for mineral study.
What's Next
The registry is set to be implemented on April 17, 2026. It remains uncertain how this will impact Kazakhstan's uranium mining sector.
