Russian drones attack Ukraine and Lithuanian airspace
On September 16, a Russian drone struck a passenger bus near Nikopol, killing at least five people. In the same period, drones attacked Kyiv, Odesa and Volyn regions, and NATO shot down a suspected Russian drone over Lithuania.

What happened
The border crossing resumed operations after a temporary closure. On September 15, Russian drones struck fuel stations and warehouses in Kyiv. One person was killed and seven were hospitalized, two in serious condition. Ukrainian air defense shot down or suppressed 187 of the 200 drones launched. In Odesa region, residential and port infrastructure came under attack.
On September 11, a drone strike on Pavlohrad killed at least five people and wounded dozens. On September 4, a Russian drone struck the SBU headquarters in Kyiv, wounding nine people. President Zelenskyy said the drone was aimed at the office of SBU chief Oleksandr Poklad, who was not there at the time of the strike.
On Tuesday, an Italian fighter operating as part of NATO shot down a suspected Russian drone in Lithuanian airspace. The drone entered from Belarus and was shot down near the settlement of Pratkūnai, north of Kaunas.
Why it matters
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called the attacks near the Polish border 'a knock on the doors of the EU and NATO' and urged full sanctions against Russia. After the strike on Pavlohrad, the Ukrainian foreign minister called on allies to provide more air defense assets.
