CENTCOM: 100 ships rerouted in 60 days of Iran blockade
The United States reported results of its naval blockade of Iran: 100 commercial ships have been rerouted in 60 days. Tehran links reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to an end to the American blockade and attacks, while the IRGC claims strikes on ships, tankers, and drones.

What happened
CENTCOM said that in the 60 days since Washington resumed its naval blockade of Iran, its forces rerouted 100 commercial ships. The command added that no vessel crossed the blockade without permission from US forces. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, for his part, said Iran would resume free movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz only after the US ends its blockade of Iranian ports and attacks on the Islamic Republic. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei said the results of consultations with Oman on managing the strait would be announced, and that the strait is under Iran's control and closed to protect the country's security.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it struck two US warships and eight tankers in the Strait of Hormuz in response to US attacks on five Iranian tankers in the Persian Gulf; it also claims to have hit 10 more vessels that tried to pass through the exclusion zone. Separately, the IRGC Navy announced the capture of an American underwater drone, Dive-LD, at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier, the IRGC said it shot down an American MQ-9 drone over the Strait of Hormuz, after which it fell into the Persian Gulf.
Why it matters
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical chokepoint for global energy trade: in 2025, about 20 million barrels of oil and petroleum products per day passed through it, amounting to almost $600 billion in energy trade per year. About 20% of the world's LNG is also shipped through the strait, mostly from Qatar.
What changed
Earlier, CENTCOM had reported intercepting more than 85 commercial ships since the resumption of the blockade of Iran. Now the command says 100 ships have been rerouted in 60 days and asserts that no vessel crossed the blockade without permission. Iran earlier announced the creation of an exclusion zone around the Strait of Hormuz, into which any commercial ship attempting to enter would be added to a sanctions list.
