German authorities are checking a transfer of €3,997,867 from Turkey to HAMAG Holding GmbH, a Düsseldorf-based company with no employees or revenue. The check concerns the legality of the origin of the funds.
Journalist Murat Ağırel documented that the Gökçek family bought a 15-apartment building in Düsseldorf through the HAMAG holding company. The official purchase price was €3.85 million; with renovations, it came to about €4.5 million. The investigation also found transfers of €722,000 and €3,857,000 from Turkey to the company's German bank account.
