What happened

Iranian media reported American strikes on the south of the country. The United States struck air defense facilities, radar systems, naval assets, mine-laying installations, and IRGC communications facilities. Explosions were recorded near Bandar Abbas, Sirik, Qeshm Island, and the airports of Chabahar, Konarak and Jiroft.

Tehran said it had launched retaliatory strikes on American bases in Jordan and the UAE. According to other reports, Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes on two American military bases in Kuwait and the UAE. Those strikes killed 18 people and wounded more than 140.

US President Donald Trump approved the recent American strikes on Iran. Trump also warned that a third Iranian attack would lead to the destruction of the country as a state. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf threatened that any attack on Iran’s interests would be met with a “quick, harsh and painful” response. Ghalibaf accused Washington of turning to AI-generated disinformation to conceal the real events. Chief of Staff of the Iranian Army Admiral Habibollah Sayyari called Trump’s threats outdated.
