Kazakhstan mandates BIM modeling for major projects from 2026

Kazakhstan will require BIM modeling for large construction projects starting July 2026. The Ministry of Industry approved a list of projects, including schools and bridges. The mandate expands in 2028 to include more facilities.

Mandatory BIM Implementation

From July 2026, Kazakhstan will enforce Building Information Modeling (BIM) for significant construction projects. The Ministry of Industry's list includes schools with a capacity of over 600 students, airports, and bridges longer than 100 meters. This initiative aims to integrate digital modeling from design through operation stages.

Expanded Requirements by 2028

By 2028, the BIM requirement will extend to kindergartens with over 95 places, university campuses, and residential buildings of three to six stories. Energy, oil and gas, transport infrastructure, and healthcare facilities, such as power plants and hospitals, are also included. By 2030, BIM will be mandatory for nearly all constructions, except the simplest third-level responsibility projects.

What's Next

The Ministry of Industry will monitor the implementation of these requirements. It remains uncertain how the construction sector will adapt to these changes.
