What happened

On October 2, Russian forces dropped three guided aerial bombs on a private residential area in the Slobidskyi and Nemyshlianskyi districts of Kharkiv. About 20 residential buildings, office buildings, an educational institution and cars were damaged.

Inside were 104 children and 60 staff members, who had taken shelter in an underground shelter after the air raid alert; the drone's warhead did not detonate, so there were no casualties. Two more drones struck a bridge connecting the eastern and western parts of Kyiv, halting metro and surface public transport; a fire at a school was also reported, but there were no injuries.

On September 30, Zelensky reported that overnight strikes across Ukraine killed five people, including one child, and wounded 14; the attacks affected Kyiv, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, Rivne and Zhytomyr oblasts. Ukraine's Air Force Command said air defenses shot down five ballistic missiles and 155 drones. In Vyshhorod, the body of a child was found under the rubble of a destroyed private house, and three other people were pulled out alive. On September 25, in Kyiv's Solomianskyi district, a drone hit a 25-story residential building, killing a 14-year-old boy and injuring nine people.

Why it matters

The strikes hit residential buildings, a school and a bridge, temporarily halting metro and surface transport. Ukraine is working to disable such repeaters, and their locations are being changed to avoid detection.
