Russia strikes Kyiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia and Izium, Poland closes airports
In the early hours of Wednesday, Russian forces attacked the Ukrainian cities of Kyiv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia and Izium, with deaths and injuries reported. Poland temporarily suspended operations at two airports in the east of the country. The strikes continued a series of attacks near the Ukrainian-Polish border.

On September 17, a Russian drone struck a gas station near the Dorohusk border crossing in Volyn region, about 4 km from the Polish border. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Polish fighter jets had been scrambled and warned that Russia was planning hybrid attacks using drones and missiles against countries supporting Ukraine, including Poland. After the September 13 strike, Ukraine’s foreign minister said the attack brings Russian terror closer to the doors of the EU and NATO.
