UN and Gaza Health Ministry: Israeli strikes on residential areas in Gaza kill civilians

What happened
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) expressed deep concern over Israeli military strikes on residential areas of Gaza that are causing civilian deaths and injuries. According to UNICEF, nine children were killed and 13 injured in Israeli attacks last week, among the casualties a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that since the ceasefire entered into force on 10 October 2025, 1,359 Palestinians have been killed and 4,571 injured as a result of Israeli strikes; in the past 24 hours, one person was killed and 30 injured. According to the ministry, the total death toll since October 2023 has reached 73,670.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk told the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council that Israel has killed more than 1,300 Palestinians since the ceasefire was declared almost a year ago. He called on states to stop transferring weapons to Israel and on companies to end business practices that support illegal settlements.
Why it matters
UN Special Coordinator Ramiz Alakbarov told the Security Council that the situation in Gaza is unacceptable more than 10 months after the ceasefire. According to him, Israeli airstrikes have intensified, and residents are living in unbearable conditions. UNICEF Regional Director Edouard Beigbeder said that a ceasefire regime under which one child is killed per day is not meeting its obligations.
