Ukrainian drones attacked refineries in Yaroslavl and Afipsky: three dead

On the night of August 28, Ukrainian drones struck the Yaroslavnefteorgsintez refinery — one person was killed and 27 were injured. Governor Mikhail Yevrayev reported one dead and 27 injured, including 10 people wounded when debris fell on an inter-municipal bus. This was the eighth attack on the facility since the start of the year, and Russia's Defense Ministry said 512 drones were intercepted over 18 regions. On the night of August 25, drones attacked the Afipsky refinery in Krasnodar Krai. Two people were killed and two more were injured; debris fell on the Afipskaya railway station, at least 10 private houses were damaged, and a fire broke out at the refinery.
Why it matters
According to Energy Intelligence estimates, Ukrainian drone strikes have disabled nearly a third of Russian refinery capacity. In the first week of June, refining volumes in Russia fell below 4 million barrels per day — the lowest in 21 years. In May, Ukrainian drones attacked Russian oil refineries 16 times, hitting 8 of the 10 largest. The nighttime attack on August 28 was the eighth for the Yaroslavl refinery, and Russia's Defense Ministry reported intercepting 512 drones over 18 regions.
